Stoa Saturday School Pupil Recruitment Notice

We are delighted to announce the opening of the Stoa Saturday School for pupils with Autism.

  • The school will be held on Saturdays between 10am and 4pm during term times at Braidburn School.
  • The school will be run on the principles of ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) with a focus on essential living skills, behaviour, communication and social skills.

We have contracted Carole Roxburgh (BCBA) consultant with the Carbone Clinic, London as our consultant and she will be assessing the pupils and designing the bespoke programmes for each individual.

Recruited staff will undertake all required training and ABA training designed by Carole, prior to the school opening to pupils.

Pupils will receive one to one tuition and be placed in groups according to the focus of their training. Group work will also focus on social skills and communication.

We will be assessing children’s suitability according to need. Our intake will be fifteen pupils with complex needs, moderate to severe learning difficulties, who attend a special needs school and receive multi-agency involvement. The age group is 9 years to 15 years old at intake. Fees are £60 per day payable termly in advance. Stoa charity will further subsidise places for families on income support.

Parents/ carers and families will benefit from the respite offered and from meeting others in the Stoa community as it builds. Parents will be involved in and kept informed of all training their child is receiving.

Stoa School will be an historic step forward in the advancement of education for children with autism in Scotland.

We are moving to Edinburgh in late August 2019. I have an 8-year old special needs daughter. Has the age group been revised for 2019? Is she eligible for Stoa School? Does she have to be a student at Braidburn to qualify?

    Thank you,
